Public prenatal care programmes

It is important to note that only expectant mothers who are planning delivery at a public hospital can enjoy prenatal care from the Department of Health’s Family Health Service clinic. You’ll have to book your delivery hospital before you can book a prenatal consultation at its corresponding Mother and Child Health Centre. Your initial consultation is free of charge, given you have the following documents: a valid Hong Kong identity card, proof of address from the past six months, proof of pregnancy, a urine sample, and a completed prenatal services registration form.

Your initial consultation will include a check of family medical histories, basic body and gynaecological tests, and a blood test, among other things. Subsequent check-ups will take place once every six weeks for weeks 10 to 24 of your pregnancy, then once every four weeks between weeks 24 to 36, and once every two weeks during weeks 36 to 40. More information is available from the Family Health Service clinic here.
