Fans of the time-travelling mechanical cat from the twenty-second century, we have exciting news for you! The limited-time Doraemon Future Pop-up Department Store—an offshoot of its flagship in Tokyo—has landed in Times Square Hong Kong! Read more as we take you through what’s on offer so you can plan your visit accordingly.
The Doraemon Future Pop-up Store is split into two locations in the mall. You will find the first on Level Two of Times Square’s Atrium right as you come up the escalators from ground level. This location appears more like a teaser of what’s to come in the second location and features a limited range of Doraemon-themed merchandise available for purchase and a single, yet no less adorable, photo spot.
The second is located on Level Five. You can either take the lift or escalators up, and you will find the pop-up store next to Max & Co. and opposite Brooks Brothers. Visitors are guaranteed to be transported into a Doraemon wonderland at this location, where an entire store space is dedicated to showcasing exclusive, Hong Kong-only merchandise complete with photo spots and a mini-exhibition of the iconic manga series.
A selection of limited-time overseas debut items is available at Doraemon’s Future Pop-up, spanning across categories including figures, stationery, crockery, and plush toys.
Of note is the Doraemon with Mini-Doraemon table clock, a hot item from the Future Department Store in Tokyo, and features a red-coated mini Doraemon popping up from the Anywhere Door in the 4D Pocket of a larger blue Doraemon!
Other decorative items include the Doraemon Hand-dyed Cloth Series, made using traditional methods by tenugui towel specialist Kamawanu in Japan. Available in a series of reduced yet undeniably Doraemon-themed designs, these make for perfect cloths for wrapping, wiping, as a mat, or a wall hanging.
More practical souvenirs include the Doraemon Culinary Series plates and the Doraemon Dining Series. The Culinary Series features four square-shaped plates adorned with expressive Doraemon faces in the middle, whilst the Dining Series features a don bowl, a tea bowl, and a chopsticks holder decorated with minimalist line drawings of Doraemon feasting on delicious food retrieved using the “Gourmet Tablecloth” gadget. Both series are irresistibly adorable and will definitely bring a splash of fun into your everyday routine.
Visitors will arrive to find Doraemon dressed in a dapper blue suit complete with a red ribbon at the Level Two Atrium pop-up location. Begin your journey at the Future Department Store pop-up by snapping a picture with Doraemon!
At the Level Five Store, you will find Doraemon joined by the rest of his friends—Nobita, Shizuka, Gian, Suneo, Dorami, and Mini-Doraemon—against a carnivalesque backdrop. Commemorate your visit by posing for a picture with the whole cast?
Visitors who are not too familiar with Times Square’s layout might find Doraemon’s pop-up locations a little hard to find in the multi-level luxury retailer. If you’re arriving by MTR, get off at Causeway Bay Station on the Island line and head for Exit A.
The walk from the exit proper is long but we assure you it will be a worthy trip. Once you’re out of the MTR underground complex, you’ll find yourself in Level B2 of Times Square. Turn right and head for more escalators—that will take you to Level Two, where you will find the first pop-up location; just follow the signs for the Atrium!
