Calling all cinephiles and dance enthusiasts—Jumping Frames—Hong Kong International Movement-Image Festival returns for another edition! With live performances, exhibitions, workshops, and screenings scheduled, read on to find out what’s in store for attendees.
Co-presented by City Contemporary Dance Company and Eaton HK, Jumping Frames is a unique festival that bridges art, performance, and cinema. Since its inception in 2004, the festival has continuously cultivated dialogue between the local talents of our city’s vibrant cultural and artistic scenes.
This year, participants can expect a rich programming centred around the theme of reenactment. Kicking off its screening programme is Feelings Are Facts, a collaborative production between two local art groups that tackles reenactment and its presentation in film. Other highlights include Spectrums: International Art House Showcase which brings curated titles from six international film festivals to local audiences. A full list of screenings can be found here.
Aiming to feed dialogue between different artistic practices, an exhibition will accompany the diverse screenings of Jumping Frames. Titled “Expanded Space: (Re)Play,” the exhibition explores film archival strategies with live performances by two international artists, Melati Suryodarmo and Xavier Le Roy. Visitors are encouraged to join in on the process and engage in the post-performance talk.
Jumping Frames has also invited Your Bros. Filmmaking Group from Taiwan to share its experience making movies with migrant workers. Through a workshop format, the collective deconstructs the stereotypes surrounding migrant workers, shedding light on their true experiences.
