Hong Kong is bursting with coffee shops, and new openings are appearing left and right. Holding its own against neighbouring rivals South Korea and Japan when it comes to coffee and cafés, our city definitely has its own eclectic roster to boast about. After all, who doesn’t need their daily dose of caffeine or thirst-quenching drink to start the day? Join us as we round up the latest cafés and coffee shops popping up in the city.
Newly opened near Man Mo Temple on Hollywood Road is Mrs H’s Coffee House, offering a selection of coffee, tea, and speciality drinks. Operating as a takeaway business only, guests can enjoy sweet and savoury pastries such as pain au chocolat and ham and cheese lattice to go. Even if you can’t dine in, the sight of Mrs H’s front façade is something fun to behold, as the eye-catching yellow door is noticeable from far away. Behind it lies The Holywell’s, a speakeasy offering a range of cocktails, coffees, and teas, as well as food, accessible by booking only.

Looking for a new place to feel inspired and get work done? Commaa is a café and co-working space located on the corner of Tai Ping Shan and Po Yan Street in Poho. The expansive shop offers a spacious environment for coffee lovers to enjoy a cuppa while tapping away at their laptops. A selection of drinks is available, including coffee, matcha, tea, and speciality drinks. Commaa also doubles as an exhibition space where art and architectural showcases will take place periodically.

Café by day and bar and shisha lounge by night, Sole Brew Café & Lounge treats visitor to a wide selection of drinks and small bites. Highlights of the menu include an indulgent lotus biscoff bagel which pairs perfectly with a black or white coffee. With its brightly illuminated space and eclectic blue sign, the café stands out as an urban-culture destination on Staunton Street. Sneakerheads will love this: Its feature wall at the back of the store has built-in shelves where 100 pairs of limited-edition sneakers are on display, all the prized possessions of the owner himself!

Popular Mong Kok-based Japanese dessert café Bestow has recently opened a new location in Tin Hau! Boasting a minimalist interior with concrete walls and hues of the brand’s signature royal blue colour, the café specialises in a selection of coffee, tea, and speciality drinks. Patrons can also look forward to sweet items on the menu such as caramelised corn mousse lava cake, black sesame Saint Honoré puff cake, and a Tin Hau-special spring parfait.

Auction house Phillips has recently opened its very first café in the West Kowloon Cultural District, a spacious location with wooden floors and a secluded outdoor balcony. Operated by The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, it offers a range of light meals and refreshments for visitors who are spending a day in the neighbourhood visiting the various museums and cultural facilities.
Highlights of the food menu include chicken panini with garlic aioli, kale salad, and grilled pumpkin, an old-fashioned banana cake, as well as tuna poke bowl with wasabi mayo and Japanese pearl rice. On the drinks menu, choose between a selection of cold drinks, cold pressed juices, coffee, and tea.

Hive is a new fitness studio in Yuen Long with its own café offering quality brews and healthy meals. Highlights of the menu include a selection of open-faced toasts topped with superfoods such as peanut butter, banana, avocado, blueberries, and strawberries, Buddha bowls featuring greens, nuts, and an assortment of protein, as well as a range of coffee options. Fitness enthusiasts can check out kickboxing and HIIT lessons on offer at Hive! The studio as well as the café sport white curved walls, light wooden floors, and luscious greenery to create a welcoming and relaxing venue.

Expanding from its Causeway Bay location to Sai Kung is Sleepless, a pet-friendly café offering a wide range of light bites, meals, and drinks, from all-day breakfast to open-faced sourdough toasts with egg, mushroom, and baby spinach, as well as more filling options like risotto and pasta. Sleepless is famed for its adorable 3D latte art, so we would recommend giving the white coffees a try!

Asian-Mexican coffeehouse Mobin has opened a new location in Jordan! Located in the buzzing Eaton HK hotel, the new café doubles as a bar and lounge once the sun sets. Guests can tuck into specialities such as the 15-spiced fried rice topped with a sunny-side-up egg, salmon quesadilla, and buñuelos with ice cream. As for drinks, choose from a selection of coffee and tea. Mobin boasts edgy-looking graffiti art on the wall and industrial-style furnishing so prepare to snap away!

Newly opened at Central Ferry Pier 8 is Filmor, a relaxed café offering coffee, light pastries, and creamy gelato. Aside from standard coffee orders such as cappuccino and flat white, Filmor’s speciality items include coffee tonic and affogato. Customise your cup with six gelato flavours or pair your cuppa with daily pastries such as muffins, doughnuts, and sandwiches. Grab a quick bite before you hop on the ferry or simply spend a casual day by the sea at Filmor.
