Hong Kong is bursting with coffee shops, and new openings are appearing left and right. Holding its own against neighbouring rivals South Korea and Japan when it comes to coffee and cafés, our city definitely has its own eclectic roster to boast about. After all, who doesn’t need their daily dose of caffeine or thirst-quenching drink to start the day? Join us as we round up the latest cafés and coffee shops popping up in the city.
Coffeelin has opened its latest branch on the historic Oil Street in Fortress Hill, bringing its famed brews and Italian home-style cuisine to a new neighbourhood. Offering espressos and your usual milk coffees, everything is brewed with a signature blend imported from Milan that is perfect for enjoying at the café’s open bar or alfresco terrace.
In shades of burnt orange and pine green, the curved interior décor, painted ceiling, and tiled floor create a warm and welcoming ambience. Highlights of the all-day menu feature a selection of comforting mains, such as cacciatore-style spring chicken, homemade tagliolini with butter and anchovies, and an irresistible rosetta roll stuffed with mortadella and truffle stracciatella.

Following the popularity of its Tai Wai store, E for Egg has recently opened a new location in Sai Ying Pun. Fitted with a minimalist wooden interior, guests can pause for a moment in the café’s relaxing environment. Kick back with a fresh cup of coffee in the camping area or get comfortable with a cuppa on the tatami bamboo mat. A wide range of food and drinks are on offer, including the signature box toasts and milk-top waffles. For drinks, the usual coffee orders are on offer alongside speciality items such as the pistachio latte.
E for Egg, G/F, 428–440 Queen’s Road West, Sai Ying Pun
Calling all coconut lovers—a brand-new coconut-themed café has opened in Tsim Sha Tsui. Tucked away in Heath, Chungking Mansions’ basement retail destination, Teadaye joins the growing list of eateries to try in the iconic building. Out of the shop’s diverse coconut-based offerings, don’t miss the whole coco jelly, served in a young coconut shell. It’s a unique dessert that is best paired with Teadaye’s coconut milk tea series, available in mango, lychee, osmanthus, and pu’er tea flavours.
For the coffee lovers, the coco lemon Americano is a refreshing combination of coffee, lemon, and fresh coconut water. Alternatively, the avocado coco Americano or latte blends coffee with rich avocado purée and fragrant coconut water or milk.

April Coffee Lab is one of the newest additions to Sai Ying Pun’s café scene. Since opening its first store in Yuen Long back in 2021, the café has grown in popularity amongst coffee lovers. Much like its Yuen Long counterpart, this April Coffee Lab offers a selection of coffee, tea, and daily cakes and pastries. Its brick-red and caramel coat catch the eye, while its curved window extends an invitation to passers-by. Space and pouffes inside the café allow for a relaxing break, while the option to get your order to go through a takeaway window tends to anyone in a rush.

Soft-opening in Wan Chai is KLF Coffee, a quirky coffee shop striving to offer affordable brews without compromising on quality. Expect your usual coffee orders from here, crafted with the shop’s hand-picked house blend roasted in-house for freshness. The eye-catching façade recalls familiar architecture of older Hong Kong streets, while its interior is modern and simplistic. KLF Coffee is hard to miss, especially to those who read Cantonese: its Chinese name is written in big characters above the entrance, and the translation includes some... vulgarity. You might just have to go check it out in person.

Soft-opening in Tsuen Wan is a unique bike-themed café. Sharing the space with its sister bike shop, Wing’s Coffee and Bar is owned by Hong Kong Olympian cyclist Wong Kam-po. While settling down in one of the homey lounge chairs, one can admire cycling equipment and memorabilia on display, all of which offer an insight into Wong’s career and Hong Kong’s cycling history. Set against a backdrop of vintage sound systems and vinyl collection, patrons can also park themselves on the coffee bar stools to enjoy a cup of coffee and some pastries.

Located just a few steps from the HKU MTR station is the newly opened Café Twenty One From Eight. A tranquil location sporting a wooden interior, this café is perfect for residents and students in the area. Offering a wide range of breakfast dishes, mains, and snacks, highlights of the menu include the Wish Granted! Brekkie—a customisable spread of eggs, salad, honey-roasted sausage, yogurt, bread and butter, and fries—as well as a crême brûlée French toast topped with fresh berries. Pair your meal with a cup of coffee or give Twenty One From Eight’s speciality drinks a try.

Located in the bright and spacious lobby of the Townplace West Kowloon serviced apartment building is Dio Café Bar, a chic hybrid shop that offers quality brews, delectable food, and a series of Hong Kong-inspired cocktails after sunset. Its sleek, black counter is surrounded by ample bench- and sofa-seating that double as a co-working area.
