Hong Kong is bursting with coffee shops, and new openings are appearing left and right. Holding its own against neighbouring rivals South Korea and Japan when it comes to coffee and cafés, our city definitely has its own eclectic roster to boast about. After all, who doesn’t need their daily dose of caffeine or thirst-quenching drink to start the day? Join us as we round up the latest cafés and coffee shops popping up in the city.
Soft opening in Wan Chai is In:joi, a new café sporting a soft, minimalist interior complete with light blue accents on its furniture and equipment. Currently, In:joi serves coffee throughout the day, with a cocktail menu available from sundown till midnight. For food, expect a wide selection of breads and pastries, highlights include curry chicken and potato cheese sourdough bread and unique miso-flavoured cookies. For drinks, In:joi offers your usual coffee orders as well as matcha and hojicha.

To brew or not to brew, that is the question... and you will find the answer at Coffee Question! Recently relocated to Cheung Sha Wan, patrons can enjoy a hearty meal in this daytime café amidst a homely atmosphere decorated with Japanese-inspired wooden furnishing and greenery. You’ll find that white tiles similar to the ones that made the old shop’s façade so popular for pictures now cover the counter of the naturally lit space. Coffee Question offers your usual coffees alongside specialities such as the Earl Grey latte for drinks and the pancake cheeseburger on the food menu.

Sporting a laid-back, wooden interior, Jen Café is a calming and homely oasis from the hustle and bustle of the Sham Shui Po neighbourhood. Founded by the Instagram-famous JenJen Bakery, the café is stocked with irresistible baked goods that will leave you hankering for more. Highlights include the pistachio and strawberry butterfly pea roll cake which comes in an alluring shade of blue and the char siu scrambled egg with scallion soy sauce on toast. As for drinks, a selection of coffee is on offer alongside speciality drinks such as hojicha milk with chestnut paste, all served in delicate tableware.

Soft opening in Ocean Terminal is a new Korean-style café with a lively interior design not unlike that of a food court. Complete with retro cushioned seating, Sips;;lban is the perfect place to refuel while on a shopping spree. There is a varied menu of speciality drinks on offer. While you’re at it, why not give the cakes a try? Highlights include classics such as blueberry cake and Basque cheesecake, while innovative options include the black sesame cake and the sweet corn cake, garnished with charred corn on the cob. Savoury dishes and Korean shaved ice bingsu are also on offer.

Pet owners will be delighted to know a new animal-friendly café has opened in Central! Mainly natural materials were used to create Kahu’s interior: Timber, stone, leather, and more were assembled to make the space look like a welcoming lounge, inviting you to comfortably enjoy a cup of coffee with your furry babies. While lounging at Kahu, enjoy a selection of freshly baked goods. Highlights include lemon poppy seed bites, scones with homemade jam and clotted cream, and brownies with vanilla cream. Pair your sweets with a cup of coffee or a speciality drink such as the refreshing Kahu lemonade or the apple oolong tea.

Local coffee roastery Shu Coffee has opened a café! Opting for an industrial interior with exposed concrete walls and streamlined furnishings, Shu Coffee is a stylish coffee house offering premium, locally roasted brews.

The popular Long Ping neighbourhood café has recently opened a second location in Nam Cheong! Now occupying an eye-catching space on the ground floor of V Walk, Cruising Coffee offers patrons ample outdoor seating, as well as a small, well-lit interior complete with wooden furniture and a counter decorated with abundant greenery. Expect a selection of sweet and savoury items, including homemade tiramisu, pistachio roll cake, and honey mustard beef bagel sandwiches. As for the drinks, it serves your usual coffee and matcha orders.

Recently opened along Jaffe Road is Wooo Coffee. With its concrete walls and exposed ceiling joints, the café has an industrial aesthetic that is stylish and inviting. Patrons can enjoy a selection of mains, with dishes such as the scallop and crab meat pasta and pancakes with sausage patty and egg. The occasional host of jazz live shows, Wooo is also pet-friendly, so bring your furry friend!
