Hong Kong is bursting with coffee shops, and new openings are appearing left and right. Holding its own against neighbouring rivals South Korea and Japan when it comes to coffee and cafés, our city definitely has its own eclectic roster to boast about. After all, who doesn’t need their daily dose of caffeine or thirst-quenching drink to start the day? Join us as we round up the latest cafés and coffee shops popping up in the city.
Newly opened in the quaint village of Tai Mei Tuk is Tamora, a three-storey café sporting a spacious and open design reminiscent of coffee shops found on South Korea’s volcanic Jeju Island—not something you get to see every day in Hong Kong! Visitors will arrive to find ample space to relax and unwind in, with nature within reach. For drinks, order a cup of latte, matcha latte, or sample across the selection of Jeju teas. Currently for food, Tamora only offers croffles with matcha and chocolate flavours, but more desserts and all-day brunches will soon be added to the menu!

This new wood-inspired café is an added boost to Sai Ying Pun’s diverse and vibrant café scene. Root Down has a laid-back atmosphere and patrons will feel at one with their surroundings while lounging under the indoor skylights. Apart from coffee, Root Down offers light bites such as sandwiches and pastries, making this the perfect mid-day stop.

Newly opened in Pacific Place is Fleuria, a flower-themed café and florist. Originally a humble flower atelier selling vibrant fresh blooms in Lai Chi Kok, this latest café venture stays true to the florist’s roots, offering patrons a one-stop shop for coffee and fresh flowers. For coffee and snacks, expect the usual coffee orders, espresso martinis, and delectable desserts when visiting Fleuria.

Opened in the new shopping mall Airside, Ideology is a minimalist coffee shop serving up quality brews and delicious bites. Its floor-to-ceiling windows and out-of-the-way location contribute to a relaxed environment in which to enjoy a cup of coffee while taking a break from shopping. You can choose from a selection of hand-drip coffees and browse through Ideology’s pastry shelf.

Mercury Recalls is a new vinyl-themed café in Causeway Bay, decorated with vintage vinyl and album cover posters complementing a sleek, industrial interior. A wide selection of food and drinks is on offer. Patrons can expect their usual coffee orders as well as speciality drinks, mocktails, and cocktails after dark. The lunch, brunch, and dinner offerings feature mouth-watering items such as smoked salmon eggs Benedict, creamy black truffle linguine, and slow-cooked French duck confit.

Newly opened in Sheung Wan is The Brew Corner, a relaxed vintage café serving up quality drinks and delicious baked goods. The signature “pretgel”—the perfect mix between a crunchy yet soft pretzel and a delicious bagel sandwich—is not to be missed. Fillings include avo chicken, lox with cream cheese, and the Brunchie. Don’t forget to order a cup of coffee to go with your sandwich!
The Brew Corner, G/F, 24 Square Street, Sheung Wan
Newly opened in a secluded spot in Yuen Long is Little Hide Café, a coffee shop sporting clean and minimalist interiors. Visitors will arrive to find a humble storefront which leads into a semi-open area not unlike a refined secret garden. A range of mains and desserts are on offer, such as the slow-cooked chicken breast tomato pasta, the full breakfast, and the lychee rose cake. Pair your meal with coffee—the rose latte and speciality drinks like the Berry Berry are not to be missed.

Thai café brand After You has moved its first overseas location to the vibrant Lee Tung Avenue. Its cosy wooden interior makes for the perfect mid-day stop, where patrons can indulge in After You’s signature shaved ice desserts and croffles which go beautifully with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
