Ah, the joy of cold beer touching your lips... Little compares to that refreshing feeling of gulping down a draught pint on a hot summer’s day. If, like us, you’re looking to cool down and savour that feeling over and over again, you’re in luck! Better with Beer is a two-day event prolonging festival season, bringing together the best of local craft brewers and musical talent. Read on to find out more about the festival, brewers, event line-up, activities, and offers!
Taking over the Central Harbourfront event space on 15 and 16 September, the folks behind Clockenflap and the Craft Beer Association of Hong Kong are partnering to bring you a weekend to remember. Centred around local craft beer with free-flow tastings included in each ticket, the event rallies more than 20 breweries and distributors in one place to give you a taste of over 150 beers. Pick your favourite poison—Better with Beer has it, but make sure to hold on to your Better with Beer event cup, as the tasting goes on throughout three four-hour sessions.
Well-known local companies such as Carbon Brews, Gweilo, Young Master, and Hong Kong Beer Co. are joined by more recently founded brewers such as Breer, Deadman, Foam Beer, and more. With the ultimate goal to showcase our city’s amazing brewing talents, an array of classic and innovative craft beer producers are on show. Check out the full list of attending breweries here.
No festival worthy of its name can come without a great line-up of beats to dance to. At Better with Beer, a diverse line-up of artists and musicians completes each session. Since music sets at the Dai Dadi tent vary, we recommend you time your visit accordingly.
On Friday night, DJ duo Crimes with Pop, disco and hip-hop champion South Canton Soul Train, roots reggae artist MouseFX, and Uptown Rockers collective kick off the festivities. Saturday afternoon is a sun-filled session accompanied by some pop reggae courtesy of Murphy and The Lawyers, surf rock by Mr Koo, an indie-folk set with Gwenji, and a finale led by an IRSP Records set.
The last music session on Saturday evening will have you moving your hips and tapping your feet as Shumking Mansion brings its upbeat dance rock to the stage, followed by The Boogie Playboys, some jazz by Fountain Collective, and a highly anticipated hip-hop finale courtesy of M4Gang. Beer in hand and out of breath from all the dancing, reserve some time to check out the Playground and the Dai Pai Dong areas, where you can enjoy fun-filled games. We personally cannot wait to try our luck at Giant Jenga and the Beer Crate Bridge challenge. For the performers of the lot, when was the last time you participated in a real Lip Sync Battle, or an Air Guitar competition? (No, the ones held in front of your mirror do not count.) Better with Beer is your chance!
