Sai Kung, with its beachside attractions and oceanic draws, has long been a favoured destination for local day-trippers, so it should come as no surprise that there is a great number of old and new cafés in this peninsula haven to meet the growing demand for a slow-paced lifestyle. Join us as we uncover six of the best cafés to visit in Sai Kung Town.
True to its name, you’ll need a keen eye to spot this sliver of a coffee shop. Tucked away in a side street off of Sai Kung’s famed promenade, Café Alley is a quiet spot that’s ideal for some much needed R&R. Cop a seat on the deck bench to rest your feet and nurse an iced coffee after an active day out, or if you’re feeling peckish, the barstools by the window provide the perfect people-watching opportunity with a side of Western-inspired café fare. From the menu, the All-day Breakfast ($82) is a perennial favourite and their range of spaghetti dishes can be made vegetarian-friendly, too. Finish off with a Classic Cheesecake ($32) or a Crème Brûlée ($32) and a Green Tea Latte (starting from $32).

It’s painfully easy to spot Little Cove Espresso—just follow the queues and crowds milling about outside of its shopfront in Sai Kung’s Hoi Pong Square. As one of the most popular cafés in Sai Kung, a bit of a wait is guaranteed, especially on weekends, but its third-wave coffee is not to be missed for true connoisseurs. Aside from being one of the most aesthetic coffee shops in Hong Kong, Little Cove Espresso also serves up one of the best Flat Whites (starting from $38) in town. As for food, whether you’re in the mood for Australian-inspired brunch plates, smoothie bowls, pastries, or breakfast bowls, the extensive menu has you covered.

This classic European bakery has been doing its things for almost 35 years now, baking up a storm to bring Sai Kung residents and tourists the freshest, most delicious pies, pastries, and bread. Come early to call dibs on Ali Oli’s alfresco dining tables, and come hungry to polish off their home-baked delicacies, ranging from Almond Croissants ($23) to Cinnamon & Coconut Danishes ($20) and Curry Beef Puff Pastries ($28), as well as their all-day breakfast platters. Aside from a full coffee menu, there are also smoothies, fruit sodas, and teas to indulge in. Ali Oli also whips up some mean desserts, such as the Apple Pie ($40) and Pecan Pie ($40).

Clustered in a quiet corner along Sai Kung’s promenade is Blacksmith Coffee Shop, a monochrome café clad in shades of black and white. If its chic aesthetic doesn’t draw you in, we’re sure the extensive beverage menu will, ranging from espresso-based coffees, brewed joes, rooibos teas, and cold-pressed juices. There’s even a line of speciality coffees that we bet you’ve never seen elsewhere, such as the Mandarin Duck ($48), with espresso, rooibos tea, maple syrup, and hot milk! Blacksmith Coffee Shop also doubles as a solid lunch spot, with signature dishes like the Pulled Pork Bagel ($96), Homemade Crab Cake ($98), and Smoked Salmon & Avocado Pizza ($88) to nosh on. Wrap up with a Honey Lemon French Toast ($58) for a sweet finish!

Could there be anything sweeter than sharing a cup of coffee with a mischievous Shiba Inu? At Shiba Taro Café, the resident “shopkeeper” plays host to all who wander in, bringing joy to guests with his adorable grin! Dogs are welcome to join, though it’s really the eponymous Taro who’s the star of the show here. His charming likeness is imprinted as latte art on all hot coffee drinks and we’re almost loath to sip from the cocoa-dusted Cappuccino (starting from $38) for that very reason! Popular dessert items include the Mixed Berries & Caramel Banana French Toast ($98) and the Caramelised Apple Waffle with Ice Cream ($98).

What’s not to love about a shop that specialises in both coffee and ice cream? Hushush Ice Cream Coffee has become such a well-loved staple in Sai Kung that they have now expanded to two locations just a stone’s throw apart from each other. Must-order items include their small-batch ice creams, with seasonal scoops such as Thai Roasted Sticky Rice ($42), Milo with Cornflakes ($40), Candied Figs & Custard ($58), Roasted Pink Tomato ($50), and Suntory Whiskey ($60). Artisanal coffees come hand-brewed, with cold brew, chocolate-based, and espresso options on offer, along with teas, juices, and homemade sodas.
